Leading passenger car models in Sweden 2023

The Tesla Model Y and Volvo XC40 were the most sold car models in Sweden in 2023, at nearly 16,500 and just about 13,600 units, respectively. In third place came the Volvo XC60 with a sales amount of roughly 11,600 that year.

Volvo – the leading car brand in Sweden

In general, Volvo cars dominated the ranking of the leading models in Sweden. Founded in 1927, the Swedish manufacturer Volvo Car Group sold more than 41,300 cars in the Nordic country in 2023. Compared to the amount ten years earlier, this was a decrease of about 12,600. However, Volvo was the most sold car brand in Sweden, ranking above Volkswagen.

All in all, over 289,800 passenger cars were sold in Sweden in 2023. During the past ten years, this amount fluctuated, peaking in 2017, at roughly 379,400 units. 2009 saw the lowest number of passenger cars sold. Only 213,400 vehicles were registered in the country that year. Compared to the year before, this was a decrease of nearly 16 percent.
